Years ago I heard an audiotape that interjected an expression from Dan Millman. He said “whatever you want from someone else, give it first”. It resonated with me as a truth. I did not need supporting polling research data to confirm or validate.
John Maxwell, in a February 2011 Success magazine article discusses five core values to winning as a team. One of the five is cooperation which, he says, requires respect and trust. How do we instill trust and respect?
As leaders we give it first … i.e., “pay-it-forward”. Okay. if you need “data” here is an abbreviated list of “give-it-first” actions by several companies:
